Ant and Dec address viewers who flooded Ofcom with complaints after drag performance

Ant and Dec took a savage swipe at Saturday Night Takeaway viewers who flooded the show with complaints after the Geordie duo performed in drag.

In the first episode of the new series, Ant McPartlin was transformed into Lady Antoinette while Declan Donnelly took on the persona of Miss Donna Lee.

The popular comedy duo joined the stage on Saturday with three former Drag Race winners in an epic End of the Show special organised by drag legend RuPaul Charles.

As they strutted their stuff in their glamorous minidresses on the ITV show, the dynamic duo showed off their new moves as they took part in a choreographed special alongside The Vivienne, Krystal Versace and Lawrence Chaney.

And while the large majority of fans loved the impressive performance, independent regulators Ofcom logged 59 complaints from viewers who had an issue with the scenes out of a total of 71 objections throughout the show.

But the slew of complaints didn’t faze the northern lads, who addressed the controversy on Saturday night’s show.

The show opened as Queen frontman Adam Lambert referenced their drag performance as he welcomed them on the show.

He said: “But first, some people call him Lady Antoinette, that’s Ant McPartlin and this is Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.”

Ant started the hosts’ intro and Dec added: “Yes, now I know you’re all thinking, ‘We’ve come to see Lady Antoinette and Miss Donna Lee. Where are they? Who are these clowns? Get off’. I know what you’re thinking.”

Ant chimed in with: “Give us a chance, we will give it our best shot, okay?” as they brushed off their insults on air.

The pair were praised online as they took on the impressive drag number, donning wigs, heels and elaborate makeup while performing some intense choreography as they lip synched (for their lives).

As they made their grand entrance, the pair managed to keep up with the professional drag artists as they rocked a pair of fake boobs, towering heels alongside a heavy dose of makeup.

Red-head Ant was dressed in a black sparkly outfit while peroxide blond-haired Dec stepped out in a blue feather dress paired with bright red lipstick.

And loyal fans of the show soon twigged that they were talking about their drag debut as they took to social media to share their thoughts on their response online.

One user wrote: “Every end-of-the-show that doesn’t have ant and dec in full drag now … [disappointed emoji] #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

Another argued: “@antanddec You guys should have come out dressed in drag shut all the haters up #SaturdayNightTakeaway/”

A third pointed out: “Yes they’re referencing last weeks end of the show.”
