Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway brought to standstill after tech blunder

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway was halted live on air last night (March 26) after the popular ITV show was plagued by technical blunders.

The first major mishap occurred during the game show segment Read My Lips, where members of the public read out words on a particular subject, via video link to a celebrity in the studio.

Line of Duty star Anna Maxwell Martin was the celebrity trying to guess the words correctly, but not all went according to plan.

While Anna correctly guessed words from the first two contestants, including TV programme Motherland, the third contestant’s appearance had to be halted midway.

The third contestant began reading out words unrelated to the topic, instead shouting out foods such as Biriyani.

The technical blunder left host Ant McPartlin confused, saying “what?”, but Anna Maxwell Martin still managed to get two of the answers right – despite the mishap.

Eventually, Ant and Dec called for the clock to be stopped early, and allowed the third contestant to have another go due to the technical blunder – but on her second try, Anna didn’t manage to guess any answers correctly.

However, in an act of kindness, the Saturday Night Takeaway hosts agreed that the contestant should still win £500 as Anna managed to guess two of her answers right during the first attempt.

That wasn’t the only technical mishap on the night either, as, during the Happiest Minute of The Week segment, the cameras showed the wrong household in an embarrassing mix-up.

Declan Donnelly told viewers that the cameras were going to Lancashire, but instead, a family in a different household could be seen instead – and failed to react after their names were not called out.

However, the camera quickly changed to a couple celebrating in the correct location instead, who had heard their names called out on screen.

The hosts once again showed their acts of kindness, however, as the duo also announced that the first family that they had shown also won a holiday too.
