Anthea Turner, 61, was 'moments away from going blind' after horror accident

Anthea Turner was caught in a horror accident which almost resulted in her losing her eyesight.

The 61-year-old TV presenter had an accident at a hotel after she was accidentally left with a wounded eye after she accidentally hit it with a curtain cord.

She put off seeking medical treatment immediately and when she eventually did, she was warned that she could have lost her vision if she’d left it any longer.

Anthea became incredibly open with her fans as she explained why they should go and get checked out for any reason that they may be concerned for their vision.

She wrote on Instagram: “Just posting these now because I want to keep you safe.

“You might have seen in the press two weeks ago a story I told of a near fatal accident I had with my left eye, but because there were no outside visible signs I did the classic thing which is, think it’ll all go away.”

She continued: “What I didn’t realise is I’d actually, due to the impact of a pull down blind cord smacking me square in the eye, made a tear in my retina and came frighteningly close to retinal detachment, which results in permanent blindness…”

Reiterating the seriousness, Anthea said: “If you sustain any injury to your eye go and get it checked out immediately.

“I did after a week then was literally rushed into an operating room and due to the expertise of vitreoretinal surgeon Chien Wong at @ocl_vision I live to fight another day.”

She stated that she will “always be in debt” to the surgeon.

Anthea added: “What could have happened would have changed my life and it frightens the hell out of me when I think about it, which I now try not to.”

Speaking to The Mirror earlier this month she recalled the incident as she said: “I recoiled in pain for a moment. Instantly there was a dull ache in my eyeball and because I was filming that day, my first thought was to check for visible damage to my face.

“My eyeball was aching, so when I looked in the mirror I was expecting to see it was bloodshot, or some redness, but my eye looked totally fine.”

Luckily, Anthea is recovering well, but she has encouraged fans to never ignore any eye incidents.
