Dan Walker was absent from his regular hosting spot on BBC Breakfast this morning.
It comes just a week after the TV star announced he was quitting the BBC for a new presenting job for rival broadcaster Channel 5.
Walker normally co-hosts Breakfast from Monday to Wednesday alongside his co-star Sally Nugent, but he was nowhere to be seen on Monday’s show (April 11).
Instead, it was Jon Kay who could be seen leading the show with Sally – after stepping in to replace his colleague on air.
The pair discussed the latest events around the globe, from the French election race, to Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s wife’s tax status, to the cost of milk.
At the time of writing, it’s unclear what the reason is for Dan’s absence, but the former Strictly star did tweet during the broadcast.
Dan admitted that he missed his old BBC show Football Focus, which he fronted from 2009 until last year, in response to a fan’s tweet.
The complimentary fan wrote: “You’re missed on FF”, to which Dan replied: “I miss it too”.
Dan announced he was leaving BBC Breakfast for Channel 5 last week, but he admitted it was a “massive decision” for him to make.
His new job will see him presenting on Channel 5’s revamped bulletin show 5 News, as well as leading various non-news shows across the channel.
In a video to fans, he said: “I’m really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me because I love BBC Breakfast.
“I love working alongside Sally and I love the team there, but Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans, and I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often and I can’t wait.”
In another statement, Dan revealed the opportunity from Channel 5 was “too good to turn down”.
He said: “I can’t wait to get stuck into the daily news show, but I am also excited about making some great new TV for Channel 5.
“I love their ideas and creativity and it’s rare to get an opportunity like this where paths and ambitions meet.
“The chance to do something different was too good to turn down.”
Walker has been presenting BBC Breakfast since 2016 since joining the broadcaster in 2009.
