BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker reveals his cheeky new nickname for co-host Sally Nugent

Dan Walker has a great working relationship with his BBC Breakfast co-host Sally Nugent, but it seems they’ve now taken things to the next level.

That’s because Strictly star Dan has revealed his affectionate new nickname for Sally – Side-on Sally.

Witty Walker’s pun is a reference to Al Green’s 1990 hit Ride Sally Ride, given the fact that him and Sally sit side-by-side on the famous red sofa.

Dan and Sally have presenting the hit BBC morning show together from Monday to Wednesday since late 2021 – after Louise Minchin left the show after nearly 20 years.

Taking to Instagram to share the nickname with his 269,000 followers, Dan said he was having a great day with his pal Sally.

Urging his viewers to join them on Monday (January 24), he wrote: “Good morning”

“We’re having a great day on the red sofa. Grab a brew and join me and Side-on Sally #bbcbreakfast”

Dan’s fans were quick to point out how much they enjoyed watching Dan and Sally’s show.

One pointed out how much on-screen chemistry the pair have have as presenters, writing: “You both have a great vibe with each other. Good to watch x”

A second wrote: “Morning Dan and Sally. You are my incentive to get up on these dark mornings! have a good day.”

Another said: “See what you did there #sideonsally”

A fourth commented: “Good morning to you both. Amm enjoying the programme.”

A fifth added: “Love Sally she’s my favourite person on the news by far. xxx”

Dan used to anchor BBC Breakfast with I’m A Celebrity star Louise Minchin, but she departed from the BBC after almost 20 years in September.

In October, it was announced that sports presenter Sally would replace Louise as a permanent host, meaning she now joins Dan on the red sofa.

At the time, Sally revealed was “absolutely thrilled” to be chosen as a permanent presenter.

She said: “It’s an honour to take the reins from Louise.”

Dan tweeted that he was “so happy” for Sally.

He added: “She is a brilliant presenter, massively popular with the team, an excellent journalist and a great friend,” he wrote.

“Hopefully we’ll have many happy years on the #BBCBreakfast sofa together.”
