BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty opens up on job as she says 'moving on is healthy'

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty discussed moving jobs with listeners as she confessed she’s stayed in her job far longer than anticipated.

The 47-year-old kicked off her BBC Radio 5 Live show as she talked to a man named Walter Orthmann, 100, who has been working for the same company since 1938.

He broke the Guinness World Record for working at the same company for 84 years, prompting Naga to tell her listeners to get in touch to let her know how long they’d been at their jobs.

She said: “How long have you been with your company? Longer than you, perhaps, thought you might be?”

Naga added: “I’m certainly here longer than I thought I’d be for many reasons. But I always had a view that to move around, move jobs, move companies is a healthy thing.”

She prompted: “What do you think? Do you love the work you do? Do you love your colleagues or are you simply stuck in your ways and quite comfortable and quite happy there? Let me know.”

Naga has been with the BBC for many years, but she only landed her own radio show in January 2021.

She’s been on BBC Breakfast since 2014, and although Naga hasn’t looked for another job just yet, the hosts alongside her have sadly changed quite substantially in recent months.

It was confirmed last year that Louise Minchin, who hosted the morning show with Dan Walker, would be stepping down from her role and focusing on other projects.

She then left and appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! before looking at documentaries and other exciting opportunities.

Meanwhile, Louise’s fellow co-host Dan Walker has also confirmed that he will be leaving the show this month after confirming his exit to Channel 5 in April.

Earlier this week Dan confirmed his final day ill be on May 17.

He said: “May 17th is my last day, so two weeks today,” while Sally shared her upset as she added: “That’s not many shifts!”

Speaking about his decision to leave, Dan said: “It was a big decision, I thought about it quite a lot. It’s a hard one as well.

“The other thing I want to say is thank you to everybody who has sent so many messages. One thing I have realised is this programme means an awful lot to people.

“I’ve realised how special this show is and how much everybody who watches it loves it, so thank you very much to everyone who has said incredible and lovely things.”

The BBC Breakfast team will be waving goodbye to Dan in mere weeks, but as for Naga, despite her philosophy that moving jobs is healthy, she seems quite set with her current position.
