BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty rushes to support co-star after health update

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty rushed to support one of her colleagues as she shared a health update.

News reporter Sally Bundock has appeared on BBC Breakfast before, along with her regular presenting stint on BBC One programme The Briefing.

But the star has been forced to take a period off work to recover from a gruelling knee operation, which has a recovery period of around six weeks.

The operation was set to repair her ACL, MCL and meniscus, with Sally in a knee brace to help support the healing joint.

Taking to Twitter, Sally shared a snap of her injured leg with the caption: “Recovery: week 6 almost done.

“I’m seeing the consultant tomorrow and hoping I can downgrade from this strict knee brace and return to work on Monday #fingerscrossed.”

The hefty brace featured black padding and metal ribs to keep the joint in place, while Sally has also been using a pair of crutches to get around.

Naga rushed to comment on her pal’s post in support, writing: “OOH – Fingers crossed Sal xx.”

Her BBC replacement Victoria Fritz added: “You have been missed Sally! Xx.”

Sally offered a health update to fans

To which Sally replied: “Thank you and thank you for doing such a marvellous job #liveatfive. So many early mornings.”

And, true to her word, Sally did return to work on Wednesday (June 15), albeit sitting down to ease the pressure on her knee.

The star tweeted from BBC studios: “It’s lovely to be back and it’s busy as usual!! A lot to catch up on.”

Sally went on to quip that she’s struggling to get into her work outfits at the moment, tweeting: “This popped up in my memories from 1 [year] ago. What a difference a [year] makes.

“I’m still on crutches but I’ll be back at work on Mon. I’m pretty sure the telly dresses don’t fit currently. Still if you are an early riser I’ll see you at 5am, usual place.”

It comes as Naga sparked outrage online after comparing her co-star Carol Kirkwood to a ‘chicken’ while sporting a fascinator at Ascot Ladies’ Day.

Sports correspondent Mike Bushell kicked things off by saying: “A beautiful bird, I think this morning. The cockatoo hat this morning, isn’t it?”

Charlie teased: “Well, we’ll see what’s coming up in just a moment…” but Naga interrupted him: “I was thinking more of a chicken.”

Outraged, Mike asked: “What?!” as Naga moved swiftly on with a quirked eyebrow, telling viewers: “Carol’s at Ascot – here’s a gorgeous view for you over the racecourse. Carol’s here somewhere!”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
