BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty scolds producers for 'groaning in her ear' during show

Naga Munchetty had a cheeky pop at her ‘groaning’ producers live on BBC Breakfast.

The BBC presenter was hosting the flagship breakfast programme with co-star Charlie Stayt on Friday (July 1), but tension seemed to rise in the studio during a quirky segment about bee-eater birds.

The bird feature had already gotten off to a rocky start as viewers were treated to live pictures of bee-eater birds in Norfolk – but Charlie worried they’d fly away as soon as the BBC cameras cut to them.

He said: “We were literally having a discussion about ‘what if they fly off just before our cameras cut to them?’ but there they are.”

Luckily for fans, the rare birds stayed put on the grass, but Charlie wanted the camera team to zoom closer to the birds, prompting Naga to tell him: “It’s never enough for you, is it?”

Unluckily for Naga, she was tasked with reading out some bizarre-sounding facts about the winged creatures, and she didn’t seem convinced by the script.

She said: “The ancient Egyptians believed that bee-eaters had medical properties, prescribing the application of bee-eater fat to deter biting flies.”

Naga then look puzzled with the next fact as she began: “They also treat the eyes with the smoke from charred…”

The cringing TV star looked up from her script and shot the camera a bemused look as she finished: “Charred bee-eater legs.”

She admitted: “I wish I hadn’t gone down this road, now.”

Charlie asked if the team could go back to the view of the birds, but Naga stopped him, saying: “No, no, no, because you’ve got to finish it.”

Eventually, it got too much for poor Naga and she launched into a rant at her producers.

She said: “You get a groan in your ear from your producers, but they’re the ones who put all these facts for us to think about and memerise first thing in the morning!”

But she clearly saw the funny side of it, because she started giggling straight after her rant.
