BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst replaced by Sima Kotecha in another presenter shake-up

BBC Breakfast had another shake-up from its usual presenting rotam with Sima Kotecha stepping in for usual Sunday presenter Nina Warhurst.

Ben Thompson appeared as usual in his Sunday slot, much to viewers’ delight, but rather than being joined by Nina or Rachel Burden, Nina was his co-host for the Sunday edition.

As Sima shared the news that she would be hosting the show, fans rushed to social media to share their delight at the switch-up.

One posted: “Enjoyed waking up to such smiling faces on early Breakfast! Good start to the day! Thank you. (More coffee now needed!)”

Another added: “Awesome to see you back on the Breakfast sofa, Sima.”

A third chipped in: “Great to see you Sima!”

A fourth wrote: “Great team on the big red sofa this morning.”

Nina appeared alongside Jon Kay on the Saturday episode on the sofa this week, so it appears she is taking a well-deserved rest.

The pair stepped in for Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt for the weekend, with Charlie taking the week off after the festive period.

He is expected to return to the red sofa next week, along with regular presenters Nina, Dan Walker and Sally Nugent.

Whilst Dan appeared on the BBC news programme at the start of the week, his absence was certainly noted as Jon Kay, Luxmy Gopal and Katherine Downes stepped in for him throughout the week.

After noticing concerns from fans, Dan took to social media to ease their worries, writing on social media: “Just so you know… I haven’t left #BBCBreakfast, I haven’t ‘ taken some time out after Strictly ’ and there hasn’t been a ‘major presenter shake-up’.

“I’m just not in this week.”

It didn’t take long for fans to respond, as one said: “Enjoy some well earned time off too Dan see you go very soon p.s footy focus ain’t the same without you no matter how good a job they do.”

Another added: “Thank you for ‘breaking your silence’, when you return you might ‘open up’ on how you spent absence.”

BBC Breakfast airs all week at 6am on BBC1.
