BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent, 50, shares bedtime routine as she talks early mornings

BBC Breakfast star Sally Nugent has given fans an insight into her bedtime routine as she opens up about early mornings.

The 50-year-old presenter began filling in as a co-presenter on the iconic red sofa 10 years ago.

However, she has been a main presenter on the programme following the departure of Louise Minchin last October.

Sally appears on the show alongside Dan Walker to bring the latest news headlines from across the world.

The mother of one, who lives in Cheshire, has opened up about her morning ritual.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Sally said: “My alarm goes off at 3.45am. I don’t have a loud, scary one that gives you a coronary.

“I use a light box that gently wakes me. I have a back-up phone alarm set every five minutes from 3.50am.”

BBC Breakfast was involved in a major presenting shake-up last week as both Dan and Sally were missing.

The permanent presenters – who usually host the show on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays – were replaced by Jon Kay and Nina Warhurst.

It represented a major change for viewers, as the last time both presenters were missing from the same episode was around the Christmas period – with both taking annual leave to enjoy the festive season.

But both Nina and Jon proved popular with viewers, as one thrilled fan couldn’t help but take to Twitter to say: “YESSSSS!!!! What a wonderful day to watch #BBCBreakfast! Two decent presenters – no need for Sky News this morning!”

Another suggested: “Much better line up this morning with John and Nina. Should be Dan and Nina!”

One baffled fan wrote: “Have Dan & Sally got Valentine’s Day off or Jon+1 finally replaced them?”

Other regular stars of the show, including weather presenter Carol Kirkwood and business correspondent Ben Boulos, made up a host of familiar faces for fans in Dan and Sally’s absence.

BBC Breakfast airs every day from 6am on BBC One
