BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent was forced to beg weather presenter Carol Kirkwood to ‘rescue’ her after a spat with a co-star.
Sally was joined by temporary host Ben Thompson on the red sofa, with regular presenter Dan Walker absent from the show again in a major presenting shake-up.
Sports correspondent John Watson also joined them to discuss the sporting issues of the day, with the World Darts Championship on the tip of everyone’s tongue.
In particular, the trio couldn’t help but discuss Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright’s colourful mohawk as he took to the stage.
John kicked off the conversation by saying: “You’ve got to love the darts – they really do put on a show. If not those competing – then for the various outfits, for the hairdos. I mean look at that, that’s amazing – Snakebite!”
But things turned slightly awkward as he added: “We’ve been saying this morning you need to work on some great nicknames. It’s all about the nicknames, isn’t it – Sally ‘No Nonsense’ Nugent!”
Sally told him: “I don’t know where you got that from.”
But undeterred, John went on: “Ben ‘The Titan’ Thompson!”
The pair were rather more impressed with Ben’s nickname, as Ben congratulated: “Ooh, I like that!” and Sally chimed in: “That’s good!”
As the sporting segment drew to a close, Ben told John and Sally: “Can you only address me by my darts name from now on please? Thank you!”
John giggled: “Ben ‘The Titan’ Thompson – it’s going to catch on, you just need the hairdo to go with it!”
Playfully ruffling his hair, Ben admitted: “It’s not far off!”
Clearly done with the conversation, Sally sniped: “Speak for yourself” and quickly turned to weather presenter Carol Kirkwood to help her escape from the darts-dominated row.
She begged: “Carol, rescue me from all of this! Good morning Carol!”
John couldn’t help but follow the post up on his Twitter account, writing: “Peter ‘snakebite’ Wright wins the World Darts Championship…
“Joining Sally ‘no nonsense’ Nugent and Ben ‘the Titan’ Thompson to discuss all… The names might catch on… not sure the hair will!”
