BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent was left red-faced on Tuesday after a cheeky swipe taken at her by co-host Dan Walker.
The pair were presenting the sports bulletin of the day alongside sporting correspondent Jane McCubbin when things turned slightly sour on-air.
There was some big transfer news looming that the trio were keen to talk about, as Sally began: “Jane is here with all the sport. Transfer deadline date – quite exciting!”
Jane agreed: “I know. There are quite a few deals that just went right under the wire at the last minute. Did you stay up to watch?”
Awkwardly, Sally replied: “Erm…” as she couldn’t quite figure out what to say.
Jane asked: “No?”
Which is when Dan couldn’t help but step in with a cheeky quip of his own, as he interjected sarcastically: “Of course Jane! Always got her finger on the pulse!”
Quick to reassure Sally – and completely ignoring Dan’s jibe – Jane said: “Don’t worry, I did! One of the biggest deals was Dele Alli moving from Tottenham to Everton…”
It seems like Dan, however, has no such reservations when it comes to staying up to catch the football.
The star was left begging fans not to tell BBC Breakfast bosses about his late night after staying up late to catch an NFL game.
Dan took to Twitter to share his outfit of the day – chosen by his eldest daughter – with followers, but couldn’t resist making a confession.
He explained in the caption of the Charles Tyrwhitt suit: “Our eldest daughter has chosen this outfit for #BBCBreakfast in the morning. I think it’s a winner. See you at 6am!”
He added: “Definitely won’t be watching the NFL championship playoffs tonight. Definitely not. #DontTellMyBossPlease.”
The navy-blue suit even featured a pocket square, matched with a bright scarlet tie, white shirt and burgundy socks emblazoned with a mustard-yellow pattern.
Dan’s fans quickly hopped into the replies section to show him some love, with one posting: “I think your daughter made a great choice for you this morning Dan. Loving the fact that she matches your tie to your socks!”
Another wrote: “I read this tweet wrong. I wondered why your daughter was going to be on #BBCBreakfast! Whoever is on Breakfast is going to be well dressed!”
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
