BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent to join Strictly show as Dan Walker sends support

BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker has revealed his co-star Sally Nugent is set to dance at a special Strictly Come Dancing charity event.

The BBC broadcaster, 44, took to Instagram to talk about the upcoming celebrity event – the Rob Burrow Strictly Ball – which is being run by Leeds Hospitals Charity.

The fundraiser will raise money to fight Motor Neurone Disease with the aim of supporting a brand new centre for those with the “horrible” disease.

It will see 11 stars compete against each other to win a “glittering trophy”, and Sally has said her former Strictly star pal Dan has helped give her dancing tips ahead of the contest.

Dan even revealed he’s due to put on his dancing shoes for the star-studded event, and he’ll reunite on the dance floor with his former Strictly pro dance partner Nadiya Bychkova.

The presenter spoke about the charity ball in a video posted to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday (March 15), alongside his adorable pup Winnie.

Wishing Sally well on the dancefloor, Dan said: “Winnie and I would love to pass on our love and support for the one and only Sally Nugent, wouldn’t we [speaking to Winnie]? Who’s taking part in the Burrow Strictly Ball this weekend.

“If you don’t know much about it, she’s dancing.”

He went on: “It’s a charity event organised to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease association and a couple of other charities really close to Rob Burrow’s heart.

“It’s all been done by his family. I think Sally’s one of about 10 or 11 celebs taking part. It should be a great evening.”

The ex-Strictly semi-finalist also confirmed he’ll be taking to the dancefloor himself, and dancing with his old Strictly pal Nadiya.

He continued: “They’ve also asked me to dust off my dancing shoes, I know, so later this week I’ll be getting together with two-time world champion, Nadiya Bychkova, and we’ll be trying to remember our Charleston.”

He admitted although Nadiya would be fine, he might “struggle” to remember his own dancing moves.

The journalist also explained he’ll be sitting on the judging panel for the evening alongside dancers Nadiya and Kelvin Fletcher, as well as comedian Jon Richardson.

He joked he’ll be harnessing his “inner-Craig”, a reference to strict Strictly judge Craig Revel-Horwood.

Sally herself announced her dancing stint on Twitter – confessing she “might not be very good”.

Sharing a snap of her standing with Rob on the red carpet at the BAFTA TV Awards, Sally wrote: “Next week I will be dancing at @Rob7Burrow Strictly charity ball. I might not be very good but hopefully will manage to make everyone smile.”

She then promoted her JustGiving page for the cause, where over £4,000 was raised at the time of writing.

In the page, part of her statement read: “Not many people can persuade me to dance – but Rob is definitely one of them. From the moment we met – he made me feel like part of the family.

“All of the team on BBC Breakfast are proud of the film we made together “My Year with MND”. When other people might have wanted to hide from the world, Rob, Lindsey and the children opened their door to us and shared their story.”

Mentioning Dan’s dancing advice, she added: “My TV partner Dan Walker has been giving me dancing advice, but i fear I’ve got no chance.

“Hopefully we can make people smile. If Macy and Maya Burrow think I’ve done a good job that will be enough for me!”
