BBC’s Morning Live took a turn for the awkward on Tuesday (January 4) as presenter Gethin Jones couldn’t resist making a jibe at his BBC co-star’s dancing skills.
Gethin was presenting the show alongside Kimberley Walsh, with guests in the studio including Dr Xand and Strictly Come Dancing professional star Nadiya Bychkova.
But while chatting to Nadiya, Gethin took a cheeky swipe at BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, who had been partnered with her on Strictly.
The stars were discussing their Christmas and New Year festivities when Kimberley asked Nadiya: “How was your Christmas? Did you get to see your little girl?”
Nadiya replied: “Yes, we spent Christmas with Mila together which was beautiful, I mean – that’s family time now. Loved it.”

Which is when Gethin cheekily interjected: “And you needed a couple of weeks off, after getting over dancing with Dan Walker for 10 weeks! After an amazing Strictly… especially when you had to go through this!”
A clip of Nadiya and Dan dancing their iconic Lobster Rock routine appeared on screen, as Gethin announced: “The lobster’s back today, Nadiya, isn’t it?”
Gethin added: “Strictly fitness today, a bit of lobster. I know Dan’s watching at home and he’s delighted that it’s a new dance craze for 2022!”
Kimberley couldn’t help having a giggle, as Gethin said: “We shall see. We haven’t got the outfits but we’re looking forward to the dance – we hope you are too!”
But Dan wasn’t holding back with a cheeky swipe of his own, as the hosts chatted to Harry Potter star Mark Williams via video call.
Mark appeared on the call with a backdrop of empty wooden shelving to chat about his role as Father Brown and his iconic blockbuster acting career.
However, Dan couldn’t help but clap back on Twitter: “We’ve reached that point where no-one cares about video-call backdrops anymore #MorningLive!”
Later, the Morning Live trio limbered up and began their first Strictly fitness segment of the new year, as Gethin asked the pro dancer: “Nadiya’s in charge of it this week, and I’m sure this was your choice, wasn’t it? Bringing the lobster back for the new year?”
Nadiya joked: “Absolutely. It’s the nation’s favourite, by Dan Walker!”
Gethin quizzed her: “Was this your idea by the way?”
As the dancer replied: “Well, once you get the music Rock Lobster, I mean, you have to bring the lobster, right? I don’t think I had a choice.”
