BBC viewers tuning in for the Platinum Party at the Palace were left underwhelmed as many complained Celeste “butchered” Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World.
On Saturday (June 4), the biggest names in music joined to put on a stellar performance for the third day of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.
And one of the famous musicians who performed outside of Buckingham Palace was none other than 28-year0old Celeste.
But it’s fair to say fans up and down the country was bitterly disappointed by the singer’s rendition of the 1960s classic song as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts online.
As she performed in front of Buckingham Palace, viewers took to Twitter to share their review of the well-known song on social media.
One user penned: “Was that singer Celeste drunk or just that bad? Nothing like ruining a great song. #PlatinumPartyatthePalace.”
Another agreed: “What a wonderful world, by Celeste? My ears bleeding blood now. Can’t understand why they invited her to sing that song #PlatinumPartyatthePalace.”
A third pointed out: “I’ve just sat open mouthed at a Lady called Celeste murdering What A Wonderful World. I presume lack of the right tune was her making it her own. #PlatinumPartyatthePalace.”
“Well, Celeste whoever she is has just absolutely murdered a wonderful world. Criminal,” a fourth person moaned.
However, many viewers disagreed with the comments, as her loyal legion of fans flooded to her defence online.
One user argued: “I don’t understand why Celeste is getting so much s**t for her performance? I think she sounded great #PlatinumPartyatthePalace.”
Another penned: “Looks like I’m the only one who liked Celeste performance. Celeste x Hans Zimmer [love heart emoji] #PlatinumPartyatthePalace.”
A third chimed in with: “Kudos to Celeste at #PlatinumPartyatthePalace. Wow that sounded amazing, powerful, wonderful, yet must have been so difficult with that huge orchestra and audience. Well done! [three applause emojis].”
It comes after viewers slammed Mimi Webb’s song choice as “inappropriate” after she took to the stage to perform one of her hit singles in front of Buckingham Palace.
As she put on a stellar performance of her hit single House On Fire, fans of the songstress could help but share their fury on social media.
