BBC's Dan Walker cheekily invites Carol Kirkwood on snooker 'date' which 'bored' wife

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker was left red-faced after being rejected by Carol Kirkwood live on-air.

The star was presenting the show alongside co-host Sally Nugent on Wednesday (April 27) when he boldly asked if the weather presenter fancied going on a date to the snooker.

It came after he had almost bored his wife to sleep on the same romantic getaway.

Things all kicked off when Dan was keenly discussing the ongoing World Snooker Championships at the Crucible in Sheffield with sports correspondent John Watson, explaining that the event – in his home town of Sheffield – brings in the crowds.

He gushed: “I love it when the snooker’s in Sheffield, because as a resident there’s a nice little buzz about the place.

Dan was swiftly rejected

“Lots of people come and visit every year, and you can see there’s a bit more activity in the park and stuff like that, a bit more buzz around the town centre. There’s just a buzz around the Crucible.”

John agreed of snooker fans: “They’re a dedicated bunch aren’t they? I think they will travel far and wide – and as far as the big events are concerned, it doesn’t get much bigger than that, does it?

“The Crucible is the home – you’re talking Wimbledon, that’s the heart of it isn’t it?”

Carol wasn’t thrilled at the idea of snooker

But it turns out Mrs Walker isn’t quite as diehard a fan as her husband, as Dan confessed: “I took my wife and one of her friends – who’s not that much into snooker – a few years ago.

“It was Peter Ebdon and Matthew Stevens, and the first frame we sat through was the longest frame in Crucible history… and they both got told off for opening sweets,” he giggled.

Miming sleep, John reassured him: “At least they hadn’t already started going [to sleep].”

Dan admitted: “They got a bit bored,” as Sally teased: “Did they? I’m saying nothing!”

Only John and Dan shared any enthusiasm for the event

Dan and John both agreed it’s best to take snacks, as Sally couldn’t resist ribbing Dan a little more as she said: “You really know how to treat Mrs Walker, don’t you?”

Laughing, Dan agreed: “Yeah – ‘Come and watch an hour of snooker, no-one’ll win, just an hour of it, come on!'”

But his wife wasn’t the only one who didn’t fancy watching more snooker, as Dan wondered if Carol Kirkwood would do him the honour of joining him, asking: “Fancy a date to the snooker, Carol?”

Carol simply replied: “Hmm…” with a chuckle and launched into the weather – but Sally wasn’t letting go of the swift rejection without teasing Dan some more.

She giggled: “She’s probably not going to the snooker with you,” as Dan agreed: “No, I think she ignored that entirely. Well, it’s always an option, Carol!”
