As most people have one Christmas they’d like to forget, Daily Star is here to remind everyone of some of the most jaw-dropping scandals that occured over the holidays.
Xmas behind bars
Back in 2009, actor Charlie Sheen was spending Christmas with his then wife Brooke Mueller and their two children in Aspen.
But things took a turn for the worse when the Two and a Half Men star threatened the actress with a knife which he reportedly held to her throat.
She was forced to call the police and the audio of the emergency call was later released where the mum-of-two tells police through tears: “My husband had me with a knife and he threatened me.. I thought I was gonna die for one hour.”
The now 57-year-old spent Christmas behind bars and was later charged with second-degree assault and menacing and a misdemeanour of criminal mischief.
He was then sentenced to 30 days in a drug rehab centre, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management.
The pair mutually filed for divorce in November 2010, putting down December 25 as the date of their separation.
72 day marriage
Kim Kardashian is a public figure who is known for spending the holidays in the most extravagant of ways.
But things were different in 2011 after she had been heavily criticised for ending her marriage with Kris Humphries after just 72 days.
In what was seen as a ploy to rehabilitate her public image, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star ditched her Thanksgiving plans and headed to the Los Angeles Mission to serve food to those in need.
Tying her hair back and sporting notably less makeup, the 41-year-old reality star donned the complete opposite of her usual attire, covering up with a red apron and red lumberjack-style jacket as she served up a hearty Christmas meal.
The mum-of-four headed to social media shortly after carrying out her good deed, writing: “Just left the LA Mission. Met so many kind hearted people!”
Royal ‘racist’ pin
In 2017, people couldn’t believe what they were seeing when Princess Michael of Kent attended the Queen’s Christmas Luncheon wearing an alleged racist pin.
The huge gathering held at Buckingham Palace was attended by more than 50 members of the royal family – including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The 77-year-old, who is wife of Prince Michael of Kent, Queen Elizabeth II’s first cousin, was wearing the brooch on her coat as she arrived at the palace with her husband.
The accessory, which depicted an African figure, is a piece of blackamoor jewellery which represent images of slavery and is widely considered offensive.
She was criticised heavily for the insensitive accessory and Not long after, a spokesman said the Princess “is very sorry and distressed that it has caused offence” and she reportedly vowed to never wear it again.
Divorce by text
Despite getting married in October 2010, Katy Perry and Russel Brand spent the following Christmas on different sides of the globe.
The singer, 38, spent the festive season on a beach in Hawaii – without her wedding ring, while the British comedian remained on home turf as he hit the pub with a friend.
The couple reportedly had a huge fight which left them unable to spend Christmas together.
The 47-year-old filed for divorce on December 30 and told his wife the news over text, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.
Katy, who is now happily engaged to Orlando Bloom, told Vogue in 2013: “Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”
Cheating scandal
Not long before Christmas 2009, Tiger Woods wound up in a car crash that ultimately exposed his affairs to the world.
The professional golfer abruptly left the mansion he shared with wife Elin Nordegren and their two children but didn’t make it as far as his neighbours yard.
The 46-year-old lost control of his car, driving into a tree before hitting a fire hydrant which caused serious damage to his SUV.
After making a vague personal statement, US weekly published a report on the same day suggesting he had been unfaithful to his wife.
His affair with nightclub manager Rachel Uchitel was revealed before many other woman came out of the woodwork to support the claims.
The American sportsman eventually checked himself into a rehab facility for sex addiction and later admitted to cheating with as many as 120 women during his six-year marriage to the 42-year-old.
