Sir David Jason has teased he’s up for starring on the reboot of The Darling Buds of May — if the price is right.
The TV legend, 81, was a big hit as Pop Larkin in the original series in the 90s.
So he was baffled that execs on new show The Larkins didn’t offer him a part.
Sir David told the Daily Star: “It was a bit surreal to see the show back.
“It was quite like deja vu, if you know what I mean.
“There was a strange feeling. I wanted to know why I wasn’t there doing it.”
Asked if he would sign up for the series, he said: “Are they going to pay me?”
The Larkins saw Bradley Walsh, 61, take on the iconic role of Pop — almost 30 years after Sir David’s last outing as the character.
It was a big hit with viewers and pulled in bumper ratings for ITV.
But Sir David reckons The Larkins isn’t as good as the original.
He said: “I thought it was quite good. Not quite as good as the original, I must admit. But it was fine.
“I didn’t give Bradley any advice. He didn’t ask for it. He didn’t really need it. He did a good job.”
Sir David has no plans to retire from TV and is now making a surprise career move into documentaries.
The star has had secret talks with a string of channels.
He said: “I have been very busy writing and creating documentaries. I am right in the middle of doing it at the moment.
“We are just trying to get them off the ground, trying to get Channel 5 or Channel 4 interested in them.
“Watch this space. I am more on the creative side now.”
But he is staying tight-lipped on what the shows will be about.
He added: “If I saw what they’re about, somebody out there will go, ‘That’s a good idea, we’ll do it first’ and then I’ll be stuffed.”
