Celebrities' most unlikely phobias including gloves, avocados and even wrists

Many of us are scared of things like creepy crawlies, but what about gloves, glitter and crisps?

Some of the biggest names in showbiz have the most unlikely phobias, including the likes of gloves and even one A-Lister being terrified of wrists.

But what else will you find several celebs being utterly petrified of?

The Daily Star’s Katie Ellis has trawled through some of the most bizarre A-list fears, which send shivers down the spines of celebrities but are perhaps considered to be everyday essentials to some people.

However, one celeb admits his fear isn’t ideal considering his ultra-special job.

No, it’s not queuing Phillip is scared of.

The Dancing On Ice host, 60, said: “The one thing that drives me crazy is glitter. You have to get used to it on DOI. You can’t have a glitter phobia, which I have! I can’t bear it.

“Why? If it gets on your hands and you can’t get it off or there is a piece on your face and they start picking at your face, it drives me mad.”

Strictly host Claudia, 50, has a strong phobia of water. “I don’t like or believe in water, I won’t have it,” she says.

She added: “I’ve never knowingly had water, I don’t like it. When people drink it, like my husband drinks great amounts of water, and I really like him but it’s problematic… He’s glugging… I don’t think so!”

Martin Freeman

Sherlock star Martin has solved the case of why it is he’s so scared of crisps and avocados! “It’s a completely rational fear – it’s happened a couple of times when I’ve eaten crisps too quickly and its very scary,” says Martin, 51.

“I will confess that whenever I have an avocado I imagine the stone lodged in my windpipe. I don’t have that much avocado.”

Emily Blunt

The British actress has a thing about gloves, which makes playing characters like Mary Poppins all the more challenging.

“I don’t like squeezing your hand into something. I feel claustrophobic.

“Worming your hand into a glove, I’m just like, urgh! I don’t like it,” she says.

“I suffer from claustrophobia – not an ideal condition to have when you’re in the Special Forces,” confesses former SAS: Who Dares Wins star Ant, 42.

“I’m OK in crowds, but could you put me into the boot of a car without me flipping out? No. Could I spend any meaningful time in a small caving tunnel? No.”

The Royal Marine-turned-reality star admits that simply standing inside a small elevator is enough to bring on a panic attack. “If I enter a lift and I know I’m completely locked in, that’s when I say to myself, “F**k, if something goes wrong, I’m going to have to prise those doors open,”’ he confesses.

Suranne Jones

The Gentleman Jack has a phobia that dates back to her childhood. “I hate wrists,” she reveals.

“It’s not other people’s wrists I’m scared of, it’s mine because the skin is thinner around that area. Growing up as a Catholic girl, seeing Jesus on the cross with the stigmata has made me not like wrists. You can see people’s veins!”

Liam Gallagher

“Spiders and mice,” says rocker Liam of his greatest fears.

“My cats – Sid and Nancy – are always bringing in mice, which I know is supposed to be a present, but I just can’t handle it. Things that go faster than me can do one. If I was on that jungle programme [I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!], the ratings would go through the roof. I’m a proper big sh**bag with things like that. I’d be a million times worse than Dean Gaffney!”

Anne-Marie

Pop star and talent show judge Anne-Marie, 31, has a phobia about vomiting that left her living off cheese bagels for years.

“My mum and dad went to the doctors because they were worried that this was the only thing I was eating,” she explains. “I would have cheese sandwiches for lunchtime then come home and have two cheese sandwiches for dinner. I wouldn’t eat any vegetables or fruit. I feel like my whole life I have had this eating thing because I have this phobia of vomit. I have never wanted to try anything. I am so terrified of it.”

Hollywood legend Tom Hanks developed a phobia while shooting the recent Elvis Presley biopic in Australia – sandworms! “They’re these things and they come up and they have these heads that if you look at them closely they honestly look like something that the Mandalorian has to flee from,” says Tom, 66.

Robbie Williams

“I don’t like speaking on the phone. I’ve got a phone phobia, I have always had it,” says Robbie, 48. “I’m deadly serious. “I prefer looking you in the eye and seeing your face.

When people talk over each other on a phone conversation, that is enough to shatter me. It’s true there’s an actual thing called phone phobia. I can’t remember what the name of it is, but I’ve got it.”

Olympic champion Tom overcame a fear of heights to win gold as a diver but he still has some work to do to overcome his coulrophobia.

“I’m not a fan of clowns – they are my biggest fear,” explains the 28-year-old father-of-one. “I want to try and fix that phobia before it becomes too bad.”
