Celebrities pay tribute to Queen as UK's longest serving Monarch dies aged 96

Celebrities around the world have paid tribute to the Queen following her death at the age of 96.

Messages of condolence have poured in from famous faces after she passed away on the 8th of September following months of declining health.

The Queen’s health declined rapidly after she was seen bidding farewell to exiting Prime Minister Boris Johnson and welcoming new Conservative party leader Liz Truss to the role on Tuesday (September 6).

An announcement from Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Charles and Camilla had travelled to be by her side as she was placed under medical supervision on Thursday (September 8).

Her other children Prince Andrew, Princess Anne and Prince Edward accompanied by his wife Sophie, all rushed to be by her side as did grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry.

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have not yet joined the family in Scotland.

The Queen had been residing at Balmoral to rest in recent weeks after struggling with mobility issues throughout the year which led to her reducing her work schedule and public appearances.

Her poor health also hindered her involvement in her Platinum Jubilee celebrations between June 3-5.

Prince Phillip – the Queen’s husband of 73 years – passed away 17 months ago on April 9, 2021, just two months shy of his 100th birthday.

King Charles III immediately became the ruling monarch following his mother’s death.

He will be officially crowned at Westminster Abbey with a traditional coronation ceremony after a period of mourning.

His Majesty the King shared a moving statement in light of his mother’s death.

He said: “The death of my beloved mother Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother.

“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”

A tribute from Buckingham Palace read: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

“The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Deborah Davies paid tribute writing: “Rest In Peace to our beautiful Queen. It feels like we have lost a family member.

“God bless you, what an incredible dignified lady you were. “

BBC Morning Live presenter Kimberly Walsh has also taken to social media to pay her respects.

She posted a picture of The Queen when she was young with the caption: “What a remarkable woman she was. Longest reigning British monarch.

“She dedicated her life to our country and led us with warmth and integrity.

“Thank you Ma’am. Rest in peace.”

ITV star Lorraine took to Twitter to share her own loving tribute.

She wrote: “So sad.

“What a life of service and duty. incredibly honoured to have met her. Always been there my whole life. Thoughts with her family and everyone who loved her.”

Journalist Piers Morgan released a touching statement where he said: “When Her Majesty the Queen died this afternoon in Balmoral, a little piece of us all died with her. “

Actress Reese Witherspoon took to Twitter to say: “Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth II,” alongside a picture of The Queen.

Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell took to Instagram with a picture of the Queen and captioned it: “My thoughts and sympathies go to the Royal Family for the loss of their Mother, Grandmother, Aunt.

“Thank you to Her Majesty for her resolute never-ending service. She is, and always will be the epitome of dignity and elegance.”

Janet Jackson also took to Twitter with a simple heartfelt message: “May you Rest In Peace Queen,” alongside a picture where she is shaking the Queen’s hand.

Gogglebox and I’m a Celeb star Scarlett Moffatt mused: “Grief is the price we pay for love.

“Thank you for the love you have shown our country. Rest in peace ma’am.”

Former Countdown host Carol Vorderman took to Twitter to pay tribute to Her Majesty.

She posted: “Thank you Ma’am for all of your service and your dedication. You have been the constant. We, in my family, are heartbroken. God Save The Queen.”

Victoria Beckham shared a stunning photograph of The Queen when she was in her 20s and wrote: “Today is a very sad day not just for our country but for the entire world.

“I’m deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Monarch, Her Majesty The Queen. She will be remembered for her steadfast loyalty and service and my thoughts are with the royal family at this incredibly sad time.”

Jeremy Clarkson has also taken to Twitter to share a paragraph about his love for The Queen.

He penned: “This is our country’s saddest day. In the hearts of every one of us, there is an ache at the passing of The Queen, a deep and personal sense of loss -far more intense, perhaps, than we expected.”

Helen Mirren, who played The Queen in the 2006 movie, has also paid tribute to Her Royal Majesty.

She wrote: “I am proud to be an Elizabethan. We mourn a woman, who, with or without the crown, was the epitome of nobility.”

Amanda Holden addressed her fans on Instagram sharing: “I think we all thought our Queen would live forever…

“Her grace, good humour and indomitable spirit.. embodied everything that made Great Britain, Great. I just can’t imagine our country without her…

“My thoughts are with her family #godsavethequeen.”

BBC Breakfast host and broadcast journalist Susanna Reid said: “No one more likely to be so loved, admired and respected than Her Majesty The Queen and although she cannot be immortal, I think we have always hoped she might be.”
