Celebrity Lingo fans fume at ITV presenter shake-up as they 'demand' Adil Ray return

Celebrity Lingo fans were left wondering where Adil Ray was during Sunday’s (August 4) episode.

The programme, which is a celebrity spin-off of ITV show Lingo, premiered this weekend with Drag Race favourite RuPaul, 61, taking up hosting duties.

The celebrity pairs going head-to-head were comedian Joel Dommett and his wife Hannah, Coronation Street actors Andy Whyment and Alan Halsall, as well as Good Morning Britain stars Andi Peters and Laura Tobin.

But as the first episode got underway, several fans were raging that regular Lingo presenter Adil, 48, wasn’t fronting the star-studded game show.

Taking to social media, one viewer fumed: “Thanks…but not acceptable. Adil Ray is Lingo. It’s like Bradley Walsh not hosting Celebrity The Chase. It’s ridiculous.”

Another tweeted: “Adil why aren’t you hosting celebrity Lingo? It’s not the same without you,” as a third demanded: “Where is Adil! Bring him back!! #Lingo.”

“Celebrity LINGO needs adil hosting it and not RUPAUL that’s why I’m not watching it. Its not the same without adil #LINGO,” penned a fourth.

Another added: “Why isn’t Adil Ray doing the prime time version of Lingo?! Outrageous! #lingo.”

A sixth quipped: “@ITV Where is Adil Ray??? Lingo isn’t the same without him,” while someone else echoed: “How on earth did they choose Ru Paul for #Lingo! Dreadful! Bring back Adil Ray before you loose most of your viewers #ITV.”

Lingo first aired on ITV in 1988 and was revived in 2021 with GMB star Adil as the host.

But while many were left outraged by the decision not to bring him back for the celebrity version, others praised the addition of famous drag queen RuPaul.

Celebs competing were Joel Dommett and his wife Hannah, Corrie actors Andy Whyment and Alan Halsall, as well as GMB stars Andi Peters and Laura Tobin

One fan said: “#Lingo Loving a bit of @RuPaul hosting on a Sunday evening!,” while another exclaimed: “Ru Paul is really good on Lingo.”

“You are way better than Adil Ray. A bit of flamboyancy is precisely what Lingo needs,” said a third.

While another wanted ITV to make RuPaul’s hosting position more permanent, writing: “@ITV love lingo and the addition of @RuPaul in place of adil ray is absolute genius. Please, please, please make him permanent host.”
