Channel 4's Steph McGovern makes rare family admission about future with 'secret' partner

Channel 4 star Steph McGovern has given a rare insight into her family life, as she opened up about her future plans.

The 39-year-old presenter, who currently hosts Steph’s Packed Lunch, has been discussing her partner, who she usually keeps out of the spotlight.

She also opened up about what it’s like to be a mother, having welcomed a daughter in November 2019.

The former BBC Breakfast presenter recently spoke to Woman & Home Magazine about whether her and her partner are considering welcoming more children into the world.

Steph said: “I don’t think more children are on the cards. It’s a bit like the Strictly question,” referencing her uncertainty about appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.

She added: “It feels like a no but I’m not going to say a definitive no because you don’t know.

“I say to my younger friends ‘don’t wait for somebody perfect or financial perfection because it doesn’t happen’.

“Just crack on. Being a mum keeps me healthy because I want to be around as long as possible.”

Steph has chosen to keep the identity of her long-term partner a secret.

However, it is known that she is a TV executive at the BBC.

Steph has previously stated that her rule is never to put her family out there and has set clear boundaries with the media.

She does not post any pictures of her partner or daughter. Steph has also decided not to share her daughter’s name.

She said she wants her daughter to be able to decide when she’s older if she wants to put herself in the spotlight or not.

In an interview with The Herald, Steph said: “The same with my partner.

“She’s not in the public eye and we just keep that separate and that’s really healthy for us because no one’s then making an opinion about our family life.

“If they have an opinion, it’s about me – and that’s fine because I’ve chosen to put myself out there.”

During the interview with Woman & Home Magazine, Steph also admitted to almost throwing up whilst interviewing then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

She said she was suddenly called to interview the former Labour Party leader after a night of heavy drinking.

She said: “One night, I ended up partying all night with Chris Evans at a party in Hyde Park, where Kylie was too.

“I was meant to be off the following morning but was called to Downing Street with Robert Peston to interview Gordon Brown.

“It was really bad because I drank too much and thought I was going to be sick.”
