A fan of BBC’s Pointless has caused a stir by posting an iconic clip from the programme, after news of Cressida Dick’s resignation, which has been making its rounds on the internet again.
Cressida resigned on February 11 and issued a statement that said “London Mayor Sadiq Khan no longer has sufficient confidence in her leadership to continue”.
Back in 2018, BBC game show Pointless featured a guest that made an innocent mistake and set viewers off in stitches after his accidental innuendo about the Commissioner.
Alexander turned to the team and asked them to talk him through the board and what options they had.
The first question was “senior police officer appointed the first female commissioner of the metropolitan police”, which the team wanted to go for.
With a confident tone, the contestant said: “I think I’ll go for Caress A Dick.”
Alexander repeated the mistake before locking in the answer and checking if the answer was pointless.
With a straight face he turned to the board before the sign flashed up with a red cross as it was, of course, invalid.
The host turned back to the team and told them “bad luck” as it would have been a good answer to go for.
Alexander told them that they were “very close” but incorrect before reading them their new score of 130.
Richard Osman then joked: “I have good news for you, you just won £250 from It’ll Be Alright On The Night, but you are unlucky there. Cressida is the answer to that one. Unlucky, not Caress A Dick.”
The audience and contestants laughed at Richard poking fun at the player before the correct answer flashed up on the screen, which showed a decent score of 21 points.
A fan of the show recently tweeted the clip after the news that the Commissioner of Police is standing down from her role.
They wrote: “Saw Cressida Dick trending and remembered this wonderful moment from Pointless. TV gold.”
Richard Osman caught wind of the video and wrote his own comment: “Thank you for this reminder. This is the closest Pointless has ever come to being taken off air.
“The lovely thing about this clip is that Billy really did make money from It’ll Be Alright On The Night for it,” he said.
