Former Brookside beauty Claire Sweeney has revealed that she only earned around £5,000 last year because of the pandemic, and was then forced to sell her home abroad.
Because of her lack of income at the time, Claire was forced to flog her lavish Spanish villa – something that “broke” her heart.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the singer and actress revealed that she didn’t earn a lot in 2021 when she was asked.
Quizzed about her earning she replied with what she earned, revealed that she brought in “under £5,000”.
She elaborated to the publication: “Our industry was decimated. Thankfully I’d sold a house in Spain, in 2019, so I was blessed that I could sit it out comfortably.
“It was a big house in Mallorca that I’d bought in 2004 for €690,000.”
She explained how flogging the villa “broke” her heart, but she did manage to make a profit and sold it for €950,000, adding: “but I had to pay Spanish taxes and English taxes”.
Claire’s money worries are now a thing of the past as she gears up for a new West End role.
With restrictions fully lifted and the musical theatre industry picking up once again, she is excited to be back at it.
She will be appearing in West End show Cabaret All Stars and will need to don a catsuit for the role.
Speaking about her role in the show she said: “This show has got a really raunchy feel to it, laced with lots humour.
“I wear a fabulous catsuit,” she gushed before explaining how it feels “liberating” to do so.
She then revealed: “I am going to sing the song Light My Fire with a big band arrangement – and I think they’re actually going to set fire to me while I’m doing it.”
Claire is best known for playing the role of Lindsey Corkhill in the Channel 4 soap opera Brookside.
She’s also known for playing the role of Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago in London’s West End.
Her love life is pretty concealed, but she did have a relationship with businessman Tony Hibbard for six years, until 2007.
And she has a son, Jaxon, with her ex-parner Daniel Reilly.
