Coronation Street in spring schedule shake-up as ITV bosses land prime time slot

Coronation Street has announced a launch date for the new spring schedule as ITV bosses hint at an action-packed season on the soap.

The popular Manchester-based show will be moving to a new time of 8pm for hour-long episode which will air on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after ditching its usual 7.30pm and 8.30pm slot.

Its new schedule is set to take effect from March 7th, as Emmerdale replaces their previous show time at 7.30pm.

The schedule shake up will put the beloved soap in direct competition with the BBC One soap EastEnders, meaning that soap fans will be forced to choose which show to watch.

It comes ahead of a dramatic season for the soap as Abi Webster finds herself on the wrong side of the tracks after her loving husband Kevin learned she cheated on him during a wild one night stand.

At first, Kevin believes that Abi had cheated on him with Seb’s father Tez and called time on their relationship which pushed her to seek out her old drug dealer Dean.

Now, fans can expect to see the blonde bombshell go off the rails as she gets involved in a high speed stolen car chase and finds herself dumped by the side of the road and drugged up.

While writhing in agony, the loving mum calls for an ambulance and is immediately rushed to hospital where she is forced to make a life-changing decision.

Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod said: “It’s an exciting time for the show and these stories will propel us into the hour-long era with a bang and all the characteristic drama, humour, twists and intrigue that Corrie viewers have come to expect.

“We’ve got high-octane action with tragic heorine Abi, leading to life and death dilemmas. We’ve got riotous romantic intrigue for Daniel, with deliciously dastardly Daisy pulling out all the stops to keep her man.

“We’ve got the uber-complex Gary, who has finally turned his life around and is atoning for his sins with Kelly, only to find himself facing a final reckoning with the ghosts from his past.

“And we’ve got heart-stopping, high-stakes drama for Sarah, featuring a knife-edge showdown between Asam and his tormentor Lydia, which will leave you wondering which one’s the bad guy. All of this in one big serving per night. What’s not to love?”
