Coronation Street star Charlie Condou has revealed that his sister, Niki Shisler, has sadly passed away after her long battle with cancer.
Charlie, 49, who played Corrie’s Marcus Dent had taken to social media to share the heartbreaking news.
Big sister Niki had lost her battle with ovarian cancer at the age of 59.
He shared the heartbreaking news to his 154,000 Twitter followers as he had quote retweeted a post that shared a Just Giving page that was made in honor of Niki.
Retweeting the post, Charlie tweeted: “In memory of my beautiful sister, who died a few days ago.”
The original tweet, which included the Just Giving link, read, “We are honored to have been chosen as the charity in memory of Niki Shisler, who died of ovarian cancer on January 16th 2022.”
After making the heartbreaking announcement this week, the soap star had received several messages from celebrity friends and co-stars who had shared their heartfelt condolences.
Coronation Street star Jane Danson posted: “Charlie, so very sorry to hear this. Sending love to you and your family x.”
Sue Perkin added: “”I’m so sorry xx,”
Radio 2’s Gabby Roslin wrote: “Oh Charlie I am so so sorry. Sending you my deepest sympathies and so much love my darling.”
Charlie Condou first opened up about his sister’s cancer diagnosis in an Instagram post in 2019.
He had uploaded a picture of himself and his sister at the hospital as part of International Women’s Day.
In his initial 2019 post, he said: “My bloody incredible sister, a true warrior, role model, inspiration and all-around badass.
“She’s just started chemotherapy for her third bout of cancer with an abundance of grace, serenity and acceptance. I’m in awe. I love you.”
Charlie Condou played Corrie’s Marcus Dent from 2007 to 2014. He’s also a columnist and LGBT rights activist.
He’s most recently seen playing Ben Sherwood on BBC’s Holby City.
