Coronation Street star Ian Bartholomew has teased his return to the cobbles.
The 67-year-old actor played the evil domestic abuser Geoff Metcalfe on the ITV soap from 2018 – 2020.
Geoff was dramatically killed off in a nail-biting rooftop battle with his ex-wife Yasmeen (Shelley King) and her daughter Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), which aired in December 2020.
In spite of his character’s onscreen death, Ian has recently fuelled rumours that Geoff could be resurrected and return to Weatherfield.
The speculation began when Ian replied to a tweet posted by Joe McIntyre actor Reece Dinsdale, who recently returned to the show.
Reece shared a photo and a post about his route to work on set, which received an interesting reply from Ian.
On Thursday (June 9), the Geoff Metcalfe actor responded: “‘Tis a goodly view.
“Good luck on them old cobbles. I know you’ll do a great job, just wish I was still there to see it in person.”
Ian finished his tweet with a look-eye emoji, which has since led to speculation that he could be poised to make a chilling return to the cobbles.
It would be a surprising twist as Geoff was confirmed deceased on the ITV soap a year-and-a-half ago.
Nonetheless, the character – who was Tim Metcalfe’s dad and Faye Windass’s grandfather – was renowned for his magic tricks.
That could mean a twist is in store for Coronation Street residents and fans alike.
Speaking previously about his experience filming on the soap, Ian told Corrie Good News: “It was hard coming to work everyday to be horrible to someone I really like.
“However, [Shelley] and I both knew it was a very important story to tell.
“We both felt the responsibility of it quite keenly.”
Actress Shelley King has also previously described Yasmeen’s torment from Geoff as a “never-ending journey”.
So, could Geoff somehow resurrect from the grave and come back for more?
Coronation Street airs at 8pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
