Coronation Street will pay tribute to two soap legends in 'moving' Christmas scenes

Coronation Street will pay a touching tribute to two soap legends over the festive period.

Fans of the ITV soap are aware that Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) is planning a secret Christmas Day wedding for Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine).

The Weatherfield mechanic got down on one knee and popped the question in recent scenes and doesn’t waste time in planning their upcoming nuptuals.

However, things don’t go quite to plan for the couple as Fiz is nowhere to be seen on the morning on the big day.

While viewers have to wait and see if the couple will enter the 2023 as husband and wife, stars Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine have opened up about Fiz and Tyrone being branded “the new Jack and Vera”.

Corrie fans will remember Jack and Vera Duckworth, played by Bill Tarmey and Elizabeth Dawn, as the loveable couple who constantly bicker and irritate each other.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Alan said: “It’s something I shy away from as much as a possibility can.

“For me, Jack and Vera was out there on their own.

“I think they are absolutely brilliant. I’d like to be the Tyrone and Fiz.

Jennie agreed: “Equally, it’s always so lovely to be asked that and the fact that they are always remembered through Tyrone’s history with them and there’s a picture of them up in their house and we’ve still got their bar.

“To get to live in their house is an absolute treat.

It has been confirmed that there’s a few nods to Jack and Vera which are “very cute”.

Opening up about what fans can except from the Christmas episodes, boss Iain MacLeod teased: “A few years ago we went a bit Die Hard with the Gary Windass and the funfair story, which I absolutely loved.

“This year it’s got loads of comedy, family fun, loads of warmth.”

He added: “I sort of cried twice during the viewing of it and I’m not given to tears, but it was just really moving and lovely.

“It’s not moving in a sad way, just moving in the warm your cockles way so I really think fans are going to love it.”

“The Fiz and Tyrone wedding is the centre piece of it and it’s just really good fun and just right amount of silly.

“Alan [Haslsall] and Jennie [McAlpine] are absolutely marvellous in it and the kids are great so it just feels totally Christmassy and totally Corrie and a good spirited way to end the year.”
