Coronation Street's Dee-Dee Bailey actress admits she 'stole' from the ITV soap set

Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown has admitted that she accidentally stole a prop from the ITV filming set and was left panicked when she realised.

The actress, who plays Dee-Dee Bailey in the ITV show, appeared on Lorraine and told the host about her accidental incident.

As she was filming, Channique was using a prop phone and kept putting it in her back pocket.

As they wrapped the scene, the Corrie star put it in her back pocket for the last time and left the set.

However, on her way home Channique panicked when she realised she had “stolen” from her new job.

She panicked and rang her agent, which left Lorraine giggling at her concern.

All was well and Channique calmed down when her agent reassured her that she could just take it back to them.

The bubbly actress has become a well loved member of cast but recently admitted that she received racist abuse after she joined the show.

She spoke to The Sun and said: “The majority of people online have been so supportive and positive, but unfortunately there has been some negativity and a bit of racism.”

Channique explained that there was “some really awful stuff” said about her, suggesting that she was “part of some Black supremacy movement”.

She called it “wild” and confirmed that Twitter took the post down.

However, the offensive comments continued and people suggested that she had been cast to “tick a diversity check box” and claimed that it was “ridiculous and overly PC” for her to be part of the Corrie cast.

Channique quipped back that the comment was “strange to her” as Dee-Dee’s presence on the street “brings the grand total of Black women to two”.

The attack on the actress is an example of “why it is so important to have Black actors on our television screens,” but also “behind the camera, writing and directing”.

Despite the negativity, Channique appears to be enjoying her time on the show and was overjoyed when she found out she’d landed the part.

She burst into tears when her agent rang her as she “was so overcome” and was on a bus at the time.

Sterling-Brown told Lorraine that she was “very vocal” in her response and everyone on the bus heard her excitement.
