Corrie boss 'cried twice' watching Christmas episodes as he teases 'moving' wedding plot

Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod has admitted he was reduced to tears while watching the upcoming Christmas episodes.

Fans of the ITV soap can expect a “fun, warm and family orientated” festive period in Weatherfield.

Iain took over as producer of Coronation Street in 2018 following the departure of Kate Oates.

“This year it’s got loads of comedy, family fun, loads of warmth.”

He added: “I sort of cried twice during the viewing of it and I’m not given to tears, but it was just really moving and lovely.

“It’s not moving in a sad way, just moving in the warm your cockles way so I really think fans are going to love it.”

Tyrone Dobbs plans a secret wedding for him and Fiz Stape

It has been revealed that Fiz Stape (Tyrone Dobbs) and Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) surprise wedding will take centre stage over the holidays.

Iain teased: “The Fiz and Tyrone wedding is the centre piece of it and it’s just really good fun and just right amount of silly.

“Alan [Haslsall] and Jennie [McAlpine] are absolutely marvellous in it and the kids are great so it just feels totally Christmassy and totally Corrie and a good spirited way to end the year.”

Will Fiz and Tyrone make it down the aisle?

In upcoming scenes, Tyrone reveals his surprise wedding plans to Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Abi Webster (Sally Carman) but when he shows them the dress he chose with Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell), Abi tells him it’s hideous and Fiz will hate it.

Beth Tinker (Lisa George) agrees to make some alterations to the dress in the hope that Fiz will like it.

However, when Fiz finds Gemma modelling a wedding dress while Beth pins it, she wants to know what’s going on.

Fans will have to wait and see if Fiz and Tyrone make it down the aisle.

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and ITV X
