Corrie fans 'work out' Spider's new food waste storyline as return confirmed

Coronation Street fans reckon they might have rumbled one of Spider’s future storylines – after it was revealed the Weatherfield legend was returning to the soap.

Corrie bosses have already confirmed eco-warrior Spider Nugent (Martin Hancock) is set to return to Weatherfield 25 years after he first set foot on the cobbles.

Now, one eagle-eyed soap fan has claimed they spotted a food waste campaign poster on a recent tour around the set in Manchester, which they think could relate to a future plot.

They shared a black and white snap of the poster to Reddit on Monday (June 19) to be examined by fellow fans, who thought it could be linked to one of Spider’s new storylines.

The alleged poster is titled with the slogan: “Reuse Refuse” before it reads: “Saving Weatherfield from food waste.

A date at the bottom read: “Launching 5/8/22,” which could be a hint at when the potential eco-storyline was coming to the TV cobbles.

The fan said: “Spotted this little poster on the Coronation Street set tour. Possibly a feature of a future storyline?”

One fan replied: “Possibly linked to Spider’s return?”

Another agreed: “I wondered this too!”

A third simply commented: “If so I can see it being like Maria’s climate change storyline.”

Another simply added: “Spider’s returning? Yay!”

The hit ITV soap has already confirmed Spider Nugent will return to Weatherfield later this year.

Hancock played Emily’s eco-warrior nephew between 1997 and 2003, but he’s now due to appear on screens next month.

Spider was also known as the on-and-off boyfriend of Toyah Battersby, who later left the Coronation Street for London, where he started a new life with his then-girlfriend.

Toyah and Spider later separated as he moved to Peru, with Toyah returning to Weatherfield in 2016.

“On returning to the show Martin said: “Having the opportunity to walk back onto the cobbles is fabulous, I’m so excited to be seeing a lot of old friends and picking up what Spider has been up to.”

Corrie has also shared a teaser video of Spider’s return as they gear up towards the soap star’s long-awaited comeback.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
