Corrie's Catherine Tyldesley reveals hidden meaning behind sweet baby name

Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley has confirmed the name of her baby girl weeks after giving birth.

The actress welcomed her little girl with her husband Tom Pitfield on April 19 as they made their family of three, with son Archie, 7, a little family of four.

Speaking to Hello! magazine, Catherine has now revealed that her daughter’s name is Iris – a name which Catherine has had in the back of her mind for “years” after a role she previously played.

The 38-year-old said: “I’ve had the name Iris for years. A while back I played a character called Iris Moss in the BBC drama Lilies and I have loved it ever since then.”

Her first name isn’t the only sweet tribute either, with Catherine confirming that her middle name also has a hidden meaning.

Iris Ella is a nod to the name Catherine fell in love with when she played the role, alongside a sweet tribute to her husband Tom’s late grandmother.

Catherine said: “Iris Ella, it really works.”

The actress opened up on the birth of her little girl as she revealed she was born two weeks after her due date at St Mary’s in Manchester on April 19.

“We are grateful beyond words and feel overjoyed that our family is complete.”

Catherine announced the happy news in October as she said the pair were “utterly blessed” to reveal they were expecting their second baby.

Fans have inundated Catherine with love from the pregnancy announcement right through to revealing her sweet name.
