Corrie’s Richard Hillman star got attacked in the street due to killer character

Coronation Street star Brian Capron – who played the role of Richard Hillman on the ITV soap – admitted he was once attacked by a loyal fan in the street who mistook him for his killer character.

But it wasn’t always fun portraying the serial killer, after the 75-year-old actor revealed how he was attacked by fans in the street because of his character on the long-standing show.

In an exclusive interview Daily Star, the former soap star explained that many fans loved his cunning character on the show.

He explained: “Trevor who was in EastEnders at the time was a very cold-hearted person, whereas Richard – he was doing it in his head for the right reasons. The character wasn’t hateful.

“Also, they built a lot of dark humour around the character so you couldn’t help liking him in a funny kind of way so that was helpful.”

However, the actor admitted that he was once hit over the head with an umbrella by a woman in the street who mistook him for his onscreen character.

Brian continued: “But I did have people occasionally attack me in the street. There was a woman once who came up and hit me over the head with a brolly, it’s mad.”

Luckily, he was able to brush off the awkward interaction as just part of the job of being a successful actor in the industry.
