Coronation Street actor Sam Aston has addressed speculation over whether or not he intends to leave the soap after nearly two decades.
28-year-old Sam first appeared on the cobbles as Chesney Brown back in 2003.
He appeared on a recent episode of ITV’s Loose Woman alongside his childhood sweetheart Briony Gardner who is expecting their second child.
Sam opened up about his future on Corrie after being asked by Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter about whether he’s considering exiting the soap in the near future.
She asked him: “Is there any chance you could suddenly branch out and be somebody else or is that character and you so closely intertwined now?”
He replied: “I’ve played him for so long, but I’ve been lucky, because I’ve had so many storylines over the years that they always test you and it’s a new thing to sink your teeth into.
“So, I’ve not really entertained the idea right now. I don’t know, maybe not.”
The Corrie star added that his time on the soap has “flown”, adding that he feels “very lucky” to have been a part of it.
He said: “I can’t believe it and I’m very lucky. I thoroughly enjoy it at Corrie.
“I think when you’re that young, you’re a bit more fearless as a child. I didn’t understand the magnitude of the show, I was just there and having a good time.
“Acting was something I enjoyed. I went to a drama workshop as a child and it was a hobby.”
Sam and his wife Briony share two-year-old Sonny James, who they welcomed in August 2020, over a year after the couple married in a stunning Cheshire ceremony.
The married couple first met at a drama workshop as teenagers.
