Dan Walker 'held breath' during Queen's funeral while praising BBC star

Former BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker has said that he “held breath” as coffin bearers carried Queen Elizabeth II at her state funeral today.

He also praised former co-star Huw Edwards who “played a blinder” throughout his coverage of the historical occasion.

Today (September 19) the United Kingdom – and the entire world – bid a final farewell to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her passing on September 8.

With a huge state funeral taking place in Westminster Abbey, the event was attended by dignitaries from around the world – as well as members of the general public, and of course the Royal Family.

Clearly glued to his telly screen like so many of us on this monumental and historic day, former BBC Breakfast anchor Dan Walker couldn’t help but write down his thoughts on Twitter.

Commenting throughout the day, there was one moment that left the much-loved newsreader and TV presenter “holding his breath”.

Taking to Twitter Dan spoke of the many moments that Her Majesty’s coffin was lifted in the air by the coffin bearers.

He said: “I don’t know about you but I held my breath for most of this part… well done lads. Trusted shoulders, nerves of steel.”

Dan then later commented on the hard work of his former colleague Huw Edwards.

Posting a snap of Welsh newsreader Huw, who reads the news on BBC, Dan penned: “When every word matters… When every mistake is magnified and scrutinised…

“When permanently finding the right tone is almost impossible to navigate… This fella has played a blinder.

“Well played Huw Edwards. Exceptional stuff.”

Dan Walker’s last day on BBC Breakfast was on May 17, 2022 before he jumped ship and began working on Channel 5 News – where he works today.
