BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker left fans feeling queasy after pointing out a mystery red stain in the studio as he announces his departure from the show.
Taking to his Instagram story, Dan, 45, posted a shocking video of the floor on set, telling the camera: “Well, welcome to the world of the strange BBC Breakfast stain,” before panning to an oozing red stain which appeared to be seeping out from underneath the sofa.
A loud scream is then heard by a female voice, who frantically asks: “What’s that?” – and Dan could then be heard laughing as the female voice added: “You put a face on it!”
The journalist and TV presenter – who competed in Strictly Come Dancing last year – has announced he will leave the BBC after 13 years to a host a revamped version of Channel 5’s 5pm news programme in the next few weeks.
Walker said in a Twitter video that he would also present “a whole host of new programmes across the channel”.
The broadcaster, who previously presented Football Focus from 2009 to 2021, has hosted the morning show since 2016.
The presenter will replace Sian Williams as the Channel 5 news anchor, who recently announced she was leaving.
Walker said in a statement: “I can’t wait to get stuck into the daily news show, but I am also excited about making some great new TV for Channel 5.”
He added: “I love their ideas and creativity and it’s rare to get an opportunity like this where paths and ambitions meet. The chance to do something different was too good to turn down.”
Walker also confirmed that his time at the BBC will be up “in the next few weeks”.
He also outlined his reasons for the change: “Channel 5 came with big ambitions, big plans and I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often and I can’t wait.”
Walker also explained that whilst he “loved” his time at the BBC, it was opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
“I think sometimes opportunities come along and you have to grab them,” he told BBC Breakfast co-host Sally Nugent.
“I’ve never ever been motivated by money in any job that I’ve ever taken, and even though I’ve loved working at BBC Breakfast and everybody who works on the show, this is a fantastic opportunity to work with a brilliant team at Channel 5.”
