Dancing On Ice's Alex Murphy opens up about breast cancer scare

Dancing On Ice star Alex Murphy has revealed she had a cancer scare after discovering a lump in her breast.

The pro skater, 33, was referred to a specialist for tests after finding the lump during a routine self-check.

Alex shared on Facebook that she had thought she might be imagining things as she found the lump after she’d just been working with breast cancer organisation, The Pink Ribbon Foundation.

She said she thought: “It’s in my head, I’m losing my frickin’ mind.”

However, she went to get it checked out and ended up having mammograms, an ultrasound and a biopsy.

Luckily, the lump was benign.

Opening up about her health scare in an Instagram Q&A, Alex said: “Everything is all good now.

“I found a lump on my boob, was referred to a specialist, and I had to have a series of mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies.

“It came back benign so I’m in the clear.”

The skater – who lost her aunt to breast cancer – went on: “I’ve been referred for some genetic counselling because of my family history, so hopefully that will all come back clear as well.”

The star said she opened up about her experience because she’d been getting so much flack about how she’d gone quiet on social media.

People had even been assuming that she and her boyfriend Paul Klein had split up.

“It was horrible, but I think we’re through the worst of it now,” she said.

“I’m recovering from the biopsy fine, and I’m just mentally tired but I’m more than OK and Paul has been a diamond.”

Alex also urged other women to get their breasts checked.

It wasn’t the skater’s first cancer scare.

Last year she revealed she had a mole removed from her face after fearing it had grown and changed colour.

“Luckily it wasn’t cancerous but it was really nerve wracking,” Alex told MailOnline at the time.
