Brendan Cole may be most recognised from his stint on Strictly Come Dancing but in a new challenge the professional has given the ice rink a go.
Appearing on ITV’s Dancing On Ice, Brendan has put on his skates and has pushed himself to take part in a completely new challenge with skating professional Vanessa Bauer.
Prior to his performance, viewers were able to see a sneak-peek of their training session, which saw Brendan take a subtle swipe at his former role on Strictly.
Speaking of Vanessa, he said: “I have met my match, she doesn’t stop, I’m exhausted.”
In a subtle dig at Strictly, he said: “15 years on that other show, not sure I broke a sweat more than about four times.”
Vanessa chirped: “He wants to make it far in this competition so, definitely going to work you hard!”, prompting Brendan to add: “Ridiculously difficult.”
He added: “This is hard, but I want this to be the best thing I’ve ever done. I cannot wait. Bring it on.”
Brendan truly put himself to the test when he performed with Vanessa and smashed it out of the park – the judges also recognised that Vanessa had worked in some of his famous routines from the BBC show.
In an impressive round, judges said that he had given them the best first performance on the show they had ever witnessed, which ultimately landed the new pairing 30.5.
There has been some controversy surrounding Brendan’s stint with many fans questioning whether it is fair to have a professional dancer on the show.
Although Brendan is aware that he’s likely to have a step-up due to his dancing stint, he said before appearing on the show that he fears the high expectations set for him.
He said: “I love the show, it’s a challenge. The people that know me from my old job, if you like, will have high expectations because I’m a dancer and it is dancing on ice.
“I’m apprehensive that I might not be as good as people think but at the same time, I’m quite positive that I’ll be able to do it!
“To what extent is another story but I’m excited for that challenge – how good can I get in the space of time we’ve got? That’s the reason for doing it, that challenge.”
Brendan was in the first half of the dancers performing this week, with six more couples appearing on the ITV show next week.
Dancing on Ice resumes on ITV on Sunday at 6:30pm.
