Danniella Westbrook 'doesn't watch EastEnders or pay TV license' due to 'BBC quality'

Danniella Westbrook has said that she hasn’t bothered to renew her TV licence, given she no longer watches the BBC.

The actress explained that the channel’s standard of programming is no longer up to scratch, describing it as “stuffy.”

Danniella, who played Sam Mitchell on EastEnders, added that she also no longer wants to be associated with the soap’s broadcaster, following the handling of the Jimmy Savile scandal.

She told GB News: “To be perfectly honest, I don’t pay a TV licence, so I don’t watch the BBC.

“Long, long gone are the days of Only Fools and Horses and great comedy and great drama that they made.

“For me, personally, I find their morning breakfast show very stuffy. It just doesn’t appeal to me.”

She also said that despite being proud to be “BBC homegrown”, she never watched EastEnders, instead preferring Coronation Street.

The 48-year-old added that she tends to flip through other channels, finding them more diverse.

Danniella said that she has noticed a change in the BBC’s demographics, saying: “Back in the late 80s, early 90s, it was a very fun and free place to work and it was very good and very fair.”

Now she thinks that the BBC should be employing young actors who are coming up through the ranks.

Speaking about how the broadcaster “advocates a person like Jimmy Savile”, Danniella believes the organisation no longer caters for the working class and that she can’t condone the handling of the scandal.
