Danniella Westbrook slams Emmerdale casting rumours as she shuts door on soap career

Danniella Westbrook has denied all rumours that she will be joining the cast of ITV’s Emmerdale.

Despite being famous for playing Sam Mitchell on EastEnders – a role she has played on and off from 1990 until 2016, there have been whispers about the star possibly joining the rival soap.

However, in an exclusive interview with the Daily Star, Danniella said: “I’m not joining Emmerdale – I’m actually not looking to go back to TV just yet.

“I’m looking to go back to theatre, that’s really for me, it’s something that lights me up. And I’m also looking to maybe do a radio show, a breakfast show or a drive-time show, and do presenting.

“I do a lot for GB News so I’m really into that, politics and stuff like that.”

However, there are a few shows that take Danniella’s fancy…

She continued: “If they had a celebrity Married At First Sight I would do it, if I wasn’t getting married then I would have done something like that.

“My partner always said to me to go on it anyways and get it out your system, he’s cool.”

This comes after Danniella shared a tongue-in-cheek video via her Instagram feed, where she talked to the camera while on the Emmerdale set.

Danniella visited the set to film for a soap-themed podcast and wasn’t actually joining the ITV lineup.

She said: “Hey everyone, guess where I am today. I’ve actually made it, I’m here at The Woolpack.

“Yes, Westbrook is in Emmerdale. I’m in Emmerdale. I’m not technically in it but I’m there. What an amazing day, I’m so excited. Emmerdale! I’m so happy.”

The TV star’s fans were thrilled with her clip, with one asking her: “Are you going to actually be in Emmerdale? Please say yes, you’ll be brilliant.”

Another wrote: “Be brilliant to see you in Emmerdale” – with a further fan messaging: “you are one of the best actors out there; I would love to see you in some top roles.”

However, Danniella had previously revealed that she would be keen to be cast on the show.

She said during an interview: ”I love EastEnders, I love Sam, but my dream is Emmerdale.

“I’d love to be in Emmerdale, I’m a country girl. You can see where I live – I ride horses.”
