David Beckham stood in line for 12hours to see Queen's coffin after making queue mistake

David Beckham has been spotted in tears while paying tribute to the Queen – after queuing for 12 hours to see the coffin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The footballer paid his respects with normal Brits after standing in line in the middle of the night in London’s streets.

But he admitted to making an error joining the queue at 2am believing it would be a quieter period only to see thousands had thought the same.

The star player wore a dark suit and black tie as he entered Westminster Palace and appeared to be sobbing as he walked by the coffin.

David apparently started queueing at 2am on Friday (September 16).

He finally approached the Queen’s coffin at about 3.30pm and looked emotional whilst waiting his turn and even wiped a tear from his eye.

Before going into Westminster Hall, Beckham spoke to the BBC, saying: “We all want to be here together. We all want to experience something where we celebrate the amazing life of our Queen.

“Something like this is meant to be shared together, we’ve been here eating Pringles, we’re eating Sherbet lemons”.

MailOnline reported that David was in the queue “on behalf of my family and obviously to celebrate with everybody else here.”

He later spoke to ITV News and said: “Probably the most special moment for me was when I received my OBE.

“To receive my OBE, I took my grandparents with me, who were the ones that really brought me up to be a huge royalist and a fan of the royal family, and obviously I had my wife there as well.

“To step up, to get my honour, but then also Her Majesty, to ask questions, to talk, I was so lucky that I was able to have a few moments like that in my life, to be around Her Majesty.

“Because we can all see with the love that has been shown, how special she is and how special she was and the legacy that she leaves behind.

“It’s a sad day, but it’s a day for us to remember the incredible legacy that she’s left.’

“I think it’ll take a long time to understand [the Queen’s death] because I think Her Majesty meant so much in so many different ways.

“I can speak on my behalf of the amount of times that I was able to meet her through my career and I was very lucky.”

They shared picture of him on Twitter and wrote: “Changing of The Guard and David Beckham happens to be front of queue where they stopped it. Good for him. #TheQueue”

GB News also shared a clip of David waiting in line while looking sombre on social media.

They captioned the clip: “After joining the queue at 2am, David Beckham pays his respects to Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Hall where she is Lying-In-State.”

One fan wrote underneath: “Much respect to that man.”
