Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker will be killed off later this year and turn into David Tennant.
The actor will sensationally reprise his role for one story where he will be reunited with old companion Donna Noble played by Catherine Tate.
But after just one episode, his time will be up and he will regenerate into the new Doctor being portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa.
A source said: “This is the first time this has ever happened in the show’s history. It marks its 60th birthday next year and what better way to celebrate.”
Jodie is bowing out as the BBC show’s ever female Time Lord later this year.
The Thirteenth Doctor will meet her match going up against The Daleks, The Cybermen and The Master.
However, when she regenerates, she will change back into Tennant who has been voted fans’ favourite Doc of all time.
The Scots actor was The Tenth Doctor from 2005 until 2010.
But now in a dramatic twist, he will also become The Fourteenth Doctor.
And when he changes his face, Sex Education star Ncuti will be The Fifteenth Doctor.
New showrunner Russell T Davies teased about Tennant and Tate’s return: “They’re back!
“And it looks impossible – first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening?
“Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”
The Doctor and Donna originally parted ways in 2010 when he had to wipe her memory – making her forget him in order to save her life.
He told her family that if ever she remembered her time with him, she would die.
Now with the duo coming face to face once more, the big question is just what brings the Doctor and Donna back together and is her life in jeopardy.
The pair have also starred in audio adventures with Big Finish.
The BBC has declined to comment on Tennant’s role in the new series.
