Davina McCall's Channel 4 dating show return cut short after first season fail

Channel 4’s new dating show, Language of Love, presented by television presenter Davina McCall, has been axed one series in after only 200,000 viewers tuned in to watch the finale in February this year.

The dating show followed British and Spanish singletons trying to prove that love can conquer the language barrier.

The show was a full circle moment for legendary presenter Davina, who made first hit it big time presenting Channel 4’s dating show Streetmate back in the 90s.

Since then, Davina went on to become a household name, hosting Big Brother on Channel 5, where she coined her iconic catchphrase “Fancy another one?”, Sky One’s Got To Dance, Channel 4’s The Million Pound Drop and ITV’s This Time Next Year.

Davina’s return to Channel 4 was set to make the reality show a success, according to the sources.

“Channel 4 thought that Language Of Love had all the ingredients to be a hit, especially with Davina at the helm,” a source told The Sun.

Not only did the show fail to “strike a chord” with the general public, but it also failed to generate any form of social media engagement, which has often boosted the success of other reality dating shows like Love Island and Married At First Sight.

Channel 4’s sources went on to confirm that “there are no current plans for another series,” however the show’s format could help it see another day.

The source said to The Sun: “It was an entertaining experiment and the central format is quite repeatable, so Language Of Love might end up living to see another day.”

Nevertheless, Davina’s loss with Language of Love doesn’t mean she’s gone from TV, her diary is jam-packed.
