Ex-Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi still bears the scars from a knockout punch he received from Brian Blessed.
The pair were booked to appear in the BBC period drama The History of Tom Jones.
And in one of their scenes together, booming voiced actor Blessed had to fight with Capaldi’s character.
However the mock scrap for the cameras – filmed back in the 1990s – ended in disaster.
Capaldi, 63, revealed: “I’ve got a scar under my eyebrow that runs the length of my eyebrow.
‘‘That’s when Brian Blessed punched me in the face. I got nine stitches.
‘‘We were filming the old BBC version of Tom Jones and I was playing a fop in a powdered wig and make-up. He was playing a squire, from the country.
“I’d been attempting to seduce his daughter – and in the scene he punched me. But he got a bit over-excited!
“I woke up on the floor, with two ambulance men pulling at my powdered wig.
“I was wheeled off to hospital in my ‘fop’ outfit, with a beauty spot.
“Poor Brian was absolutely distraught.”
Flash Gordon star Blessed, 85, is still haunted by the accident.
And when he was offered the chance to appear in Doctor Who in 2015 alongside the Scots actor, he turned it down.
He said: ‘‘I couldn’t bring myself to look at him again since the day I punched his head.
‘‘I couldn’t even bring myself to go and see him in hospital.’’
However there was one funny side to the story.
Blessed adds: ‘‘Peter was playing a floosie and had the beauty make-up and lipstick on when they rushed him off to hospital.
“So when he arrived at casualty, the staff thought he was a cross-dresser.’’
Capaldi recently had some harsh words about Doctor Who’s prop quality, claiming the costumes had to be “stuck together with duct tape”

He told the Daily Mail: “With ‘Doctor Who,’ we don’t really have enough — everything on ‘Doctor Who’ falls to pieces, all of the props fall to pieces and the costumes have to be stuck together with duct tape and velcro and stuff.
“I like the kind of B movie kind of cobbled together, quality of it. That … there’s never really quite enough money, but the ideas are often very special.”
