Eamonn Holmes has stepped in to defend Rylan Clark on social media after a troll took aim at the BBC Radio 2 star.
GB News star Eamonn, 62, took matters into his own hands when the Twitter troll claimed Rylan had been throwing “sickies” – after he was absent from his Radio 2 show for two weeks.
It comes as This Morning star Rylan recently opened up about his health issues.
The troll slammed Eamonn and Rylan in the tweet as well as praising Piers Morgan for ‘having an opinion’.
They wrote: “Never been a fan of @EamonnHolmes but sadly our TV & radio shows are loaded with presenters like him, who openly admit to having no talent or opinions & wonder why they’re in their well paid jobs. “
They added: “At least @piersmorgan has an opinion. Also growing weary of @Rylan’s “sickies.”
It Takes Two host Rylan replied to the tweet and disputed the claims, saying: “Sickies? I was ill?”
Seeing the tweet, Eamonn threw his support behind Rylan, whom he used to work with on ITV’s This Morning, and branded the Twitter user a “stupid ignoramus”.
He wrote: “Rylan, I was going to challenge this stupid ignoramus …. decided not to but because he has annoyed you he has annoyed me more.
“I know how truly ill you have been … I just hope he never catches one of your “Sickies”… Stay well my friend x (sic).”
Rylan has opened up to fans about his health issues over the last few months, and he even went into hospital earlier this month before saying he was “slowly on the mend”.
During this time, he was unable to lead his Radio 2 show as normal and other presenters, such as Gary Davies, filled in for him whilst he recovered.
He returned on Saturday afternoon, reassuring listeners that he was “bouncing fit”.
At the start of his show, Rylan said: “I want to say a massive thank you to Gary [Davies] and OJ [Borg] for stepping in the last couple of weeks, don’t stress.”
He went on to refer to himself in the third person as he teased his show: “He’s alive, he’s alive. He is back and bouncing fit and do we have a show for you this afternoon.”
Rylan said he had a bit of a “dodgy time” when asked about he was doing on The One Show on Thursday night.
He told Welsh host Alex Jones: “I’m good, it’s so nice to be back! Oh, you know me – I just love a little drama, don’t I? No, I’m very good. I’m very good now, thank you – I had a little bit of a dodgy time but I’m good.”
