EastEnders fans sob as Ben makes Callum relationship decision after homophobic attack

EastEnders favourite Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has announced that he no longer with the be public with his sexuality.

The mechanic and his husband Callum Highway (Tony Clay) were brutally attacked by a group of thugs in an homophobic attack in dramatic scenes last week.

Fans of the BBC One soap have watched struggled to come to terms of the horrific beating in recent episodes.

Callum (Tony Clay) tried his best to get Ben to see that they can get through his dilemma during Friday’s visit to Albert Square.

Frustrated that Callum doesn’t understand, Ben goes to leave to speak to his Pam Coker (Lin Blakley) again.

Callum opened up to Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) about his concerns for her son.

Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) crossed paths with Isaac Baptiste (Stevie Basaula) walking his grandaughter Lexi home and told him he doesn’t want anything to do with grasses or their families.

Kathy interrupted saying she needs to talk to Ben’s dad Phil.

When Ben arrived home he realised that Kathy, Phil and Callum have staged an intervention.

Ben told them he is tired of fighting and admitted he’s scared for his safety.

Later, a concerned Pam found Ben at Ruby’s and she admitted to him she sometimes thinks if she hadn’t been so supportive of Paul’s sexuality he may still alive.

Callum overheard the conversation between the pair and was left horrified.

Pam quickly tried to explain herself to Callum but they couldn’t see eye-to-eye and he asked her to leave.

Ben went on to tell Callum he can’t go on like this and no longer wants to be public with his sexuality because safety is more important.

Fans were left heartbroken as Ben made the heartbreaking announcement.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Ben is breaking my heart seeing him so broken and Callum hurting but knowing how to help his husband.”

Another added: “Don’t change your life for anyone Ben” with a crying face emoji.

A third person posted: “Ben speaking these words are so true and hurts my heart that people in the LGBT+ have to feel that way everyday.”

Ben finally allowed himself to break down as his ex Paul’s grandmother comforted him.
