EastEnders' Martine McCutcheon eyes up 'posh' role as she teases return to acting

Martine McCutcheon has revealed she wants a “posh” role after playing maids and serving roles for a number of years on screen.

The former EastEnders star, 46, rose to fame playing barmaid Tiffany Mitchell on the BBC soap.

After Tiffany was killed in a tragic car wreck in 1998, Martine became an Olivier Award-winning actress as cockney flower girl turned high society debutante Eliza Doolittle in a West End adaption of My Fair Lady.

Recently, Martine has shared her desire to step away from maid roles and play a “lady” once again and on-screen this time around.

Martine told The Mirror: “I’ve been the barmaid, the maid with the biscuits and the maid in At Bertram’s Hotel by Agatha Christie.

“I learned on My Fair Lady on stage that it was nice to be the lady, so it’d be quite nice to be the lady on screen as well as on stage.

“That would be really good.”

Over recent years, Martine has contributed her voice to the ITVBe reality show Billie & Greg: The Family Diaries.

However, the actress revealed she has turned down a number of acting roles over recent years as she wants to spend more time with her husband Jack McManus, 38, and seven-year-old son Rafferty.

She added: “With filming, you have to be on call 24/7 and it’s normally 17-hour days.

“So that’s the reason why, for movies and TV dramas, I’ve taken a step back.”

Martine tragically lost her younger brother Laurence John, or LJ, at the age of 31 earlier this month.

The star was left devastated after LJ passed away suddenly with “no medical explanation”.

Thanking fans for their support, she recently said: “They mean the world to me and my family.”
