EastEnders’ Sam Womack shares health update amid cancer battle and theatre comeback

Former EastEnders star Samantha Womack was greeted by rapturous applause during her theatre comeback on Wednesday (November 4) as she opened up on her ongoing battle with breast cancer.

Celebrating her 50th birthday, the gorgeous star stunned audience-goers with her performance as the devilish White Witch on stage in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The star commanded the stage in a beautiful cloak and leather ensemble, as a loud applause rung around the West End’s Gillian Lynne Theatre.

Ahead of her performance and return to Narnia, Sam, who recently completed chemotherapy, said: “I’m back at work at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.

“It’s been a rough couple of months but I am blessed to be back.”

Ex-Eastenders co-star Rita Simons, who played her on-screen sister Roxy Mitchell, shared a photo of the pair as she led support for her beloved pal.

She said: “Happy birthday to the other half of me. @samzjanus love you and so proud of you #PrincessWarrior.”

A swarm of celebs penned messages for Sam beneath the sweet post.

Their on-screen EastEnders mum Glynis Barber said: “My babies are all grown up. Happy birthday darling @samzjanus.”

I’m A Celeb star Vicky Pattison said: “Awww this (love heart) Happy birthday Sam.”

Sam has been candid with fans about her journey, which saw her undergo chemotherapy after having surgery to remove a lump from her breast.

In a video at the time, Samantha quietly told the camera: “I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been sending me love after I shared my story about battling with breast cancer.

“So just to tell you where I’m at, I’ve had my operation – had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal – and I am now going to start my first session of chemotherapy tomorrow.

“But I have read all of your stories and messages. They’ve blown me away, genuinely.”

She announced her cancer diagnosis while paying tribute to the late Olivia Newton-John in August.

Sharing a picture of herself with the actress, who passed away at the age of 73, Samantha wrote: “This was the most magical of evenings.

“Olivia and Chloe had come to see Grease in London and we had dinner together afterwards. I was so excited and in awe, she was my childhood.”

Sam added: “I now start my own battle with this disease and am left feeling deeply moved. #OliviaNewtonJohn.”
