A Team hitmaker Ed Sheeran was left fuming at a South Park joke that “f***ing ruined” his life.
The ginger-haired singer explained that one joke about people with red hair in the smash-hit adult cartoon opened him up to further mockery after having the “p*** taken out of him” in England.
The joke in question was featured in an episode entitled Ginger Kids from series nine of the show, which sees Cartman wake one morning with ginger hair.
Within the comedy show, the condition is referred to as ‘gingervitis’ and constantly labelled a ‘curse’ – with Cartman explaining that finger people don’t have souls.
And now, speaking in a new interview with Slam Radio, 30-year-old Ed explained how the joke prevented him from ever being seen as ‘cool’ in America.
He explained: “Having red hair in England was always a thing that people took the p*** out of you for. But it was never something in America. People never knew what a ginger was in America.
“And then I remember that episode coming out and that was just it worldwide for the rest of my life.”
The episode was even said to inspire the National Kick a Ginger Day, which has seen students across the world assaulted – and the spin-off holiday International Kiss a Ginger Day invented in its stead.
Despite this, Ed says he holds no animosity towards the show – and would even be up for voicing a character one day.
It comes after Ed opened up on how he “almost killed” fellow pop star Elton John while filming the music video for their Christmas hit Merry Christmas.
Describing the epic moment, Ed explained: “I almost killed him with a bell on the video.
“I’m dressed up as a sort of sexy Santa Claus and I kick a present, but the present had a big metal bell on top of it.
“I showed him the footage of it today because we slowed it down, and the bell flew past his head and would have cracked him in the head.
“Oh my gosh the horror that went through my body when it was flying through the air!”
But he added of the festive duet: “But man, the music video is wild.
“We parodied old great British music videos that came at Christmas, I am the little boy from The Snowman, I’m Shakin Stevens, East 17 and Wham Last Christmas.”
