Ed Sheeran's awkward apology to X Factor group for stealing major career moment

Union J star Josh Cuthbert has opened up about the band’s dream music collab – and how they had a previous run-in with him.

X Factor star Josh revealed that he would love for his group to team up with music sensation Ed Sheeran.

On Monday (August 15), Josh attended the HBO premiere for House of the Dragon, the impending Game of Thrones spin-off.

Talking exclusively to the Daily Star at the event, Josh revealed how his ideal collab would be the Shape of You singer.

He said: “Ed Sheeran, we have actually met him before as well.

“The last time we met him he beat us to No1, well, he was No1 and we were No2.

“And he came in and apologised and was like ‘I’m so sorry, that No1 would have meant so much more to you guys than me’.

“He didn’t mean it in an arrogant way, he meant it in a really sweet way, but you never know, it could happen, who knows what could happen? One song could change everything.”

The Union J star also argued that it’s too soon for the X Factor to make a return.

The boy band first shot to fame when they came fourth on the X Factor in 2012.

Josh spoke exclusively to the Daily Star about his thoughts about the reported return of The X Factor.

He said: “I heard this and I’m not sure about it. I think you should let things, not die, that’s very morbid, but I think you can overdo things.

“With the likes of Big Brother there has been a longer gap, so that’s a better shout, but I think X Factor should have left it a few more years in my opinion.”

Josh also revealed that Union J, which includes Josh, Jaymi Hensley, George Shelley and JJ Hamblett, are in talks of making a tell-all documentary.

The singer announced: “Hopefully, we’re doing a tour in March next year and we’ve got some record label meetings and other exciting meetings about a documentary and stuff.

“We are going to be open about our mental health and a bit about what it’s like being in a band and various stuff really – just a very open and honest thing really.”
